“There are cases of sort of “mimicry” under the original label that was used for copying. For instance, there are discs that nearly indistinguishable from «Zonophone». Only close inspection will reveal the substitution of one of the letters in the label name: there is «Zolophone» instead of «Zonophone»”. [A.I.Zhelezny, p. 89]
We can only add to said above that “mimicry” was not such a rarity at that time. Please take a look at the design of «International Parlophon Record» or one of version of «Tonophone Record» . But the most interesting, that mimicry was used not only piratical labels, but law-abiding too. Please take a look at the example of the earliest Aprelevka’s plant label «Luxophone Record» . Most likely with mimicry they tried to achieve high sales of the young and unknown factory – remember “Panasonix” and “Soby”. But when the factory by quality of its production built up its own reputation, it abandoned it and designed its own unique label «Ìåòðîïîëü Ðåêîðäú».
