Julian Roselli and his Salon Orchestra (with vocal refrain) issued on Panachord Panachord 25497:
GB.5458-1 Pale Volga Moon - Waltz (O'Hagan)/ KB.181-2 Second Serenade (Heykens)
Julian Roselli is a pseudonym for Alfredo Campoli: matrix KB.181-2 was issued on UK Decca F3349, recorded 25-11-1932, by Alfredo Campoli and his orchestra. The other side of F3349 is KB.180-2, Only My Song (Lehar).
An instrumental version of Pale Volga Moon, by Campoli was issued on Decca F3142, matrix GB5463-1, recorded 13-01-1933. GB5458-1 was almost certainly made at the same session, because of the close matrix numbers, but does not appear to have been issued on Decca. It may therefore have been recorded especially for Panachord, which became part of Decca in April 1933.
As far as I can tell, this uncommon title (Pale Volga Moon) was only ever recorded by Ambrose (08-03-1933), the Savoy Orpheans (21-03-1933), and Alfredo Campoli – there are no other recordings the world over. |
